Adriana Viveros-Sosa
Resources Priority Group – Co-Chair
My Name is Adriana Viveros- Sosa. I was originally born in Jalapa Veracruz, Mexico, and was brought to the USA when I was just 9 years old. I was little girl who feared the unknown as I entered a world very different from everything I knew. My parents do not speak English, so I had to help them have a voice and began interpreting for them at a young age. As a child, I learned how to understand complex policies and systems to explain to my parents. I graduated from Kennett High School, but my journey was not easy as I had to adapt to this new culture and new language. I learned the importance of giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves and have made it my mission to represent those who feel that they are in the shadows.
Now I am a Program Coordinator for the Health Ambassador Program at ChristianaCare, where my life experience helps me help others by creating a bridge to health. I am also the co-chair of the Wilmington Consortium where we focus in maternal and child health. Member of CHW Delaware association . Recently during the state-wide baby formula shortage, the Wilmington Consortium held a successful formula drive and giveaway event where we were able to provide formula and gift cards to 80 families in need. Parents also received community resources and baby items, as well as connections to various other resources and programs available in our community. Currently we are organizing a coat drive where our goal is to provide a winter coat for children in K-5th grade, school supplies, and community resources. I also plan and implement community baby showers to educate different types of communities, including those with Substance Abuse Disorder, to the Latinx community which is close to my heart. In fact, we have held multiple baby showers completely in Spanish, in which we have seen a real impact directly within the local Latinx community.
I am not shy when it comes to helping those in need. I love to network with the many wonderful local agencies to better serve our community. My passion is rooted in maternal health and work that addresses social determinants of health. I am a DACA recipient, which means I must work even harder against all the obstacles and systems that can hold you back from achieving your dreams. For me, my most important role is that of Mom. I am a mother to 4 beautiful children who have a love for the work that I do. I do my best to role model what it means to care and work hard for what you believe in. This is work that is always going to be needed, and I am always going to be right there ready to do what it takes.
